The Whimsical World of Sheri Fink – 2015 Small Business Grant Finalist

WHAT’S THE ONE THING THAT A GRANT AWARD WOULD BE USED FOR TO CONTRIBUTE MOST TO YOUR SUCCESS AS A SMALL BUSINESS?

Sheri Fink, local best-selling author and Founder of The Whimsical World of Sheri Fink based in the South Bay, tells us in her Top 3 finalist video submission. “If my small, independently owned business is selected to receive a ShopLocal business grant, it will enable me to fulfill a dream of gifting autographed copies of my books to every elementary school, hospital, and library in the South Bay community enabling every child in the local area to benefit from the inspiring and empowering messages in my books.” —Sheri Fink  http://www.sherifink.com/

Personal Story
Growing up in rural Virginia, I was a small town girl with big time dreams. After witnessing my family’s daily struggle to survive, I became the first person in my family to attend college and to earn a Masters degree. I applied my family’s work ethic along with my education and climbed the corporate ladder while building a successful career in marketing and moving to Southern California. Over 12 years later, I realized that my heart and soul yearned for more than I could attain in that fiscally rewarding, yet unfulfilling environment.

While I was considering making a career transition, I was blessed with the additional adversity of being mercilessly bullied in the workplace. The emotional experience inspired me to write what eventually became my first book.

Leaving my comfortably uncomfortable corporate job and leaping into the unknown was scary and exciting. My soul was aching for a new adventure and I’m grateful that I took inspired action and heeded the call.

Publishing The Little Rose and having it become my first #1 best-selling, award-winning book enabled me to transform the adversity I faced into a hero’s journey to inspire kids to embrace their authentic selves and do what’s right for them no matter what anyone else says or thinks. It opened a previously locked door for me to step through and fulfill a greater purpose and make a much bigger difference.

Sharing my story has completely transformed my life. Now I get to create books, music, merchandise, and live experiences that empower people and transform lives. It’s not easy being a small business owner who’s charting her own path. I embrace the humble hustle every day and still rely heavily on the strong work ethic instilled in me by my parents.

The journey is truly amazing and I’m excited to see what magic unfolds in the coming years. I feel grateful every day to be considered a positive role model for kids who need to know someone sees their true beauty and wholeheartedly believes in them.
